New applications in 2026 will go through the BC government’s Current Pathways programs:
1. Autism
If you are concerned that your child may be on the Autism Spectrum, you can apply for funding from the Autism Funding Unit. SoundPlay clinicians can help with Communication Skills Assessments. SoundPlay’s RASP registered therapists can work with children under six. All of our therapists work with Autistic children ages 6 to 19).
Autism Support Specialists at the Provincial Autism Funding Unit are able to provide guidance about your child’s needs. Call or email for more information.

2. Complex Needs
If your child has complex needs and does not qualify for autism funding, you can apply for benefits from the At Home Medical Benefits Program. You can still apply until March 2027. To be eligible for the At Home Program, a child must be:
- 0-17 years of age. Please note Medical Benefits will provide benefits up until the last day of the month a youth turns 18 years of age
- A resident of British Columbia and enrolled with the British Columbia Medical Services Plan
- Living at home with a parent or guardian
- Assessed as dependent in at least three of the four activities of daily living (eating, dressing, toileting and washing) by an AHP assessment.
Note: These processes will be changing over the next year as the province introduces their new funding stream. Please see below.
3. Extended Benefits
Many extended health plans, for example, Sun Life, Blue Cross, Green Shield, and others, have speech-language therapy and audiology benefits. SoundPlay may not bill health plans directly (SLPs may not bill directly in BC), but you can submit your receipts from SoundPlay for reimbursement from your private health plan.
Please note that the BC government has proposed changes to funding for children and youth with support needs. The plan is for the Children and Youth Disability Benefit to come into effect in March 2027.
SoundPlay is keeping a close watch on the changes and will update our information as needed. You can check out the government of BC website directly for more information.
