Computer Based Training
The power of technology in conjunction with professional intervention (assessments, monitoring, coaching) can be used by families to complement traditional therapy. I am a Provider for two programs: Fast ForWord and Stronger Brains. These programs work on the principle of neuroplasticity, and can be used to help children struggling with Auditory Processing, Listening and Reading challenges. Fast ForWord can be used with children as young as 6 years, and Stronger Brains is designed for students aged 11 to 18 and works on the cognitive skills that underlie language, listening and learning. Please see the information below to learn more about Fast ForWord and Stronger Brains.
Consistent Training improves the chance of Success
The Fast ForWord and Stronger Brains programs are designed to be used intensively to achieve success. As a Provider, I want students of all ages to be successful! This means that the student needs to commit to completing the recommended number of training weeks, and parents need to support their children to be compliant to the training protocol, usually 5 days a week, 30 minutes a day for at least 8-12 weeks, or more. As a Provider, I am here to help!
How Can My Child Use Fast ForWord or Stronger Brains at Home?
Since Fast ForWord and Stronger Brains are web-based, they are ideal to use at home, on your preferred schedule. You will need an Internet connection, Windows or Mac PC or laptop, or iPad and a pair of high-quality stereo headphones. Headphones with a Y-adapter allows the parent or coach to listen in while the student is working.

What You Need to Know about Stronger Brains.
Stronger Brains offers a fundamentally different approach to enhancing listening and learning skills. It is an online platform that uses the science of brain plasticity (including intensity, adaptivity and immediate feedback) to improve cognitive skills which can also result in improved social and emotional health.
This program is designed for children aged 11 to 18 years old, who are struggling to find academic or social success. Many students who find success with Stronger Brains might have, for example, ADHD executive function challenges, dyslexia or auditory processing deficits. Some students have difficulties with emotional awareness, difficulty identifying facial expressions and body language, or they may have slow visual or auditory processing.
What you need to know about Fast ForWord
Fast ForWord offers a series of programs, based on intensive, adaptive training. Programs range from foundational listening, language, phonemic awareness and reading programs. My practice is set up for students to do Fast ForWord from home. We first establish baseline information. It is often helpful for me to review previous assessments to gain insight into the student’s unique challenges, so that we choose the right program.
Stronger Brains For Enrichment and Fast ForWord
It is also possible for students to do Stronger Brains or Fast ForWord for enrichment purposes even if there are little or no concerns or deficits. Once parents decide to enroll their child, I arrange a set-up appointment (online or in-person).
